Dr Stephanie Chok is an independent researcher who has volunteered and worked with several NGOs in Singapore. Her PhD focused on the precariousness of low-paid migrant workers in Singapore and was awarded the second prize in the ASAA (Asian Studies Association of Australia) Presidents’ Awards for Best Theses on Asia. Her current research focuses on issues related to social inequality in Singapore.
Stephanie previously worked for migrant worker organization, the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (www.home.org.sg), and was the Case Manager at the domestic workers’ shelter at the time when Parti Liyani was residing there and charged with theft in 2017. Since leaving HOME as a staff member, Stephanie has continued to volunteer with HOME, and is part of the team supporting Parti through her trial, appeal, and, finally, acquittal.
